Sound fancy? Okay, Ladies. Let’s start!

1. Types of curly hair

type 2 curly hair

For starters, you must know what curly hair you have — to manage your mane. I have type 2 naturally wavy hair, so let’s learn together.

Type 2 hair Wavy/Curly

Type 2a presents slight waves and they begin much lower than the root, almost from the half down.

Type 2b goes up just a bit, with the roots still straight. Hair type 2b also has more defined waves that go into an S shape type of wave, compared to the flowing beach waves we found in type 2a.

Hair type 2c has defined S-shaped waves starting from the roots. (upward direction from a to c — starting from the middle up to the roots)(Shen, 2021).

SUPER AWESOME SIDE NOTE: A necessary observation before going in-depth on ABC is the overall difference between hair 2 and hair 3. While hair type 2 is envisioning curls as an “S” wave motion, hair type 3 showcases spiral curls, meaning the difference between 2c which has the tightest waves differs completely from 3a, even with just a single level of curliness in between(Shen, 2021).

Type 3 Hair Curly

Hair type 3a has the loosest spiral with the largest circumference. It could go around a carrot.

Hair type 3b forms a tighter spiral and it would be imaginable going around a paper highlighting marker.

Hair type 3c is not only tighter than the earlier mentioned, it also has thinner hair strands, forming coils with more root volume. 3c would go around a pencil (Shen, 2021).

Now that we know about curly hair types, let’s dive into how to fight frizz for type 2.

2. Fighting frizz for type 2 curly hair

type 2 curly hair

Frizz is one of the biggest problems for all curly haired girls. And fighting frizz without proper tools leads to extreme frustration. So how do we fight frizz for type 2 curly hair?

To answer this question, we will focus on before shampoo, during shampooing, during & after blow-drying, and other useful tips.

Before shampoo

To fight frizz, comb out any tangles before you shampoo. Combing tangles while your hair is wet causes damage.

That said, curly haired girls must be mindful of the pillowcase they use to sleep. A silk pillowcase is ideal for curly haired girls. This pillowcase causes the least damage (aka frizz) to your hair. The other choice if you do not want silk pillowcases is a silk bonnet.

During shampoo

To fight frizz for the washing stage, it’s recommendable to use a safe, paraben and sulphate-free shampoo. Look for a shampoo with zero alcohol – for alcohol dries out the hair follicle.

To keep the frizz free waves, it’s important to not go into any extreme — sometimes treatment shampoos designated for oily hair are too drying. Although they treat the oily scalp, they don’t offer enough hydration for the longevity of the hair where the waves are.

As a solution, it’s recommendable to use the treatment shampoo if needed, just to the roots. Apply normal shampoo on the hair tresses. Then rinse your whole mane at once (Shen, 2021).

At that, you must watch the water temperature, control the amount of shampoo, and massage properly to shampoo your hair like a pro hairstylist — to fight frizz. I wrote on how to shampoo like a pro – so you can learn more here.

During & after blow-drying

Last, to fight frizz at this stage — gently press your hair dry with a towel (100% cotton t-shirt or microfibre hair towel), then blow-dry and style.

Fight frizz even more by adding hair oil on the ends for extra shine and hydration before or after scrunching. Mixing two drops of Olaplex Bonding Oil with the Olaplex No6 Bond Smoother will do an amazing job of adding hydration while supporting hair’s hold and definition (Shen, 2021).

Useful tips

A very useful tip is to detangle your hair while it sits with the conditioner and not brush it at once after you rinse and dry.

Detangling while you condition the hair helps not break dry hair ends. It spreads the conditioner all over and tames uncontrollable hairs (Shen, 2021).

Super Awesome Side Note: Rubbing and washing your hair too much causes hair damage.

Now that we know a few tips to fight frizz, let’s look at a 2 “perfect” styling tools to keep your type 2 mane gorgeous.

3. Perfect tools for gorgeous type 2 curly hair

type 2 curly hair

Let’s discover 2 “perfect” styling tools to keep your type 2 mane gorgeous. Ready? Okay. 🙂

Microfiber towels

For starters, microfiber towels are the lifelines for curly hair types. This towel is your hair salvation, if your hair gets over-dried with regular towels or every time you blow-dry your hair, it gets frizzy and damaged.

That said, microfiber towels’ super absorbent fiber can not only reduce blow-drying time but replace your dryer. The best thing is that it’s suitable even for short 2b hair. (All You Need To Know About 2a, 2b, And 2c Hair: The Right Care And Styling Routine, 2021).

Hair Diffuser

Lastly, a hair diffuser is a must-have for type 2 curly chevelures. The diffuser gently disperses the air to give your strands a defined and shiny look.

Also, in this way, blow-drying doesn’t bring a lot of damage. So instead of searching Duck Duck Go for the best products for 2c hair, make sure that you’ve got a large diffuser. (All You Need To Know About 2a, 2b, And 2c Hair: The Right Care And Styling Routine, 2021)
